Week 2 Reporter Newspapers Basketball Poll

December 16th, 2009 at Wed, 16th, 2009 at 1:26 pm by Joel Willits

We just released the newest Reporter Newspapers Basketball Poll, and you’ll notice a few major changes.

First off, Kentwood drops all the way from No. 3 to No 8. The team is great when they have Josh Smith in the middle, but his injury left enough questions with the votes that the Conks dropped in the polls. Beamer’s early season losses, capped off with last weekend’s loss to Bellevue, drops them from the poll. Curtis, Lincoln and Ferris all jump into the Top 10.

In Class 4A girls, Newport takes a huge leap, coming from an unranked squad to No. 3. A 6-0 record certainly helps a team that I’ve stated should make a state run this season.

Not a ton of movement in Class 3A boys or girls action besides a few teams at the low end of the rankings. It should be an interesting week though.

I'm the sports writer at the Bellevue Reporter newspaper. On this blog you'll find extra bits and pieces to stories I've written, observations on events in our area, and a behind the scenes look at what it takes to bring a story together. I'll field questions here, and maybe even ask a few too. I'm a 2007 graduate of the journalism program at Eastern Washington University. Prior to joining the Reporter, I worked at USA Hockey Magazine and did radio work with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox AAA baseball team. When I'm not busy covering the happenings in Bellevue, I enjoy playing hockey, watching sports and spending time with my family. You can also follow me on Twitter or you can send me an email.
