First basketball poll released

December 9th, 2009 at Wed, 9th, 2009 at 1:43 pm by Joel Willits

The first Reporter Newspaper basketball poll was released this week (full poll below) and here are some of my thoughts on it.

The Bellevue boys are ranked at No. 6 in the Class 3A poll. They’re 3-0 and getting some good points from Ian Gordan and Nate Sikma to compliment Aaron Bright (who seems to have a game-high each and every time they take the floor). But, as always, 3A seems like it will run through the Metro League. We’ll have a better idea of what the Wolverines bring when they face off against Class 4A No. 8 Todd Beamer this Saturday at Bellevue College.

The Newport girls are in the “others who received votes” category in Class 4A, but I’d expect them to move up as the year goes on. There are a lot of good girls basketball teams in the state, but I really do expect the Knights to be among the best.

Bellevue’s in the “others” category for girls 3A as well. We’ll see how it all pans out, because right now, they’re sitting at 1-2.

Any questions? Shoot them my way – although we have several reporters voting on this poll I’ll do my best to get it answered.

Joel Willits I'm the sports writer at the Bellevue Reporter newspaper. On this blog you'll find extra bits and pieces to stories I've written, observations on events in our area, and a behind the scenes look at what it takes to bring a story together. I'll field questions here, and maybe even ask a few too. I'm a 2007 graduate of the journalism program at Eastern Washington University. Prior to joining the Reporter, I worked at USA Hockey Magazine and did radio work with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox AAA baseball team. When I'm not busy covering the happenings in Bellevue, I enjoy playing hockey, watching sports and spending time with my family. You can also follow me on Twitter or you can send me an email.
