Wine tasting event for a good cause

March 8th, 2010 at 4:07 pm by lindsaylarin

Wine Tasting

The Eastside’s newest wine shop, Wine Styles in Bothell, is hosting an upcoming wine tasting and fundraiser event on Saturday, March 20 from 6 p.m., to 9 p.m.

The wine event will help raise funds for Stacy Glopen through the National Foundation for Transplants (NFT), a nonprofit organization that helps patients raise funds for transplant-related expenses.

In 2008, Stacy Glopen was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, cancer of the plasma cells in her bone marrow. Doctors have told her an autologous stem cell transplant is critical to her survival —meaning her own stem cells will be harvested, treated and returned to her body. She is scheduled to begin the process later this year.

An autologous bone marrow transplant costs approximately $300,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with health coverage, Glopen faces financial burdens related to her transplant. She will require follow-up care and anti-rejection medications to ensure her body accepts the new bone marrow.

To help alleviate some of the financial burden, Glopen turned to the

“We are thrilled that Stacy will receive a new lease on life this year by undergoing a stem cell transplant,” said Kay Horne, NFT fundraising consultant. “But the transplant is just the first hurdle, and she will face significant expenses related to the procedure. At NFT, we’re helping volunteers raise the essential funds to assist with Stacy’s expenses so she can fully enjoy her new life without worrying about the financial burden.”

Enjoy an evening of wine tasting, networking and a live performance by local artist Annie Lockwood, all while helping to raise funds for Glopen and the NFT.

Have the perfect Valentine’s Day

February 2nd, 2010 at 11:19 am by lindsaylarin

200425266-001

It is that time of year to pick out a mushy Hallmark card and impress your significant other with the perfect dinner reservations. Bellevue offers an abundant number of restaurant choices, so make your pick and place the call to reserve a table for two on February 14.

Executive Chef at Z’Tejas Southwestern Grill, Noel Sanchez, offers his recommendations for the ideal Valentine’s Day dining experience:

ZT Valentine's Dinner

1. Choose a restaurant you trust and make a reservation at least three days before. Some may be booked weeks or even a month out. The later you wait the fewer options you will have.

2. On Valentine’s Day, never be late to your reservation. Because of how busy the restaurant is and the number of people waiting to be seated, if you are late you may have to wait.

3. If you have an appointment or event immediately after dinner, please let your server know so they can help get you out on time. With that said, plan enough time so food can be cooked.

4. Try the specials. Most restaurants will have high-quality specials for Valentine’s Day at a good price.

5. With Valentine’s Day on Sunday, look to celebrate on Friday or Saturday to avoid larger crowds. Z’Tejas will be offering their Valentine’s Menu Feb. 11-14. Reservations are recommended each day.

76766164

On the Valentine’s Day Menu at Z’Tejas:

Surf & Turf – Pistachio crusted beef tenderloin, topped with caramelized onion sauce, served with sautéed spinach and jumbo chipotle marinated shrimp. $23.99

Seared Chile Crusted Scallops – Chile dusted and seared scallops on a bed of green chile and PAMA Liquor sweet potatoes, topped with a Serrano parsley chimichurri sauce, served with green apple and avocado salad. $16.99

Dessert:
Chocolate Mousse – Decadent chocolate mousse made with PAMA Pomegranate Liqueur. $5.95

Valentine Specialty Drinks:
PAMA ‘Rita’ – PAMA pomegranate liqueur floated on top of their famous 6th Street margarita.

Pomegranate Mojito – SKYY Vodka, PAMA Pomegranate Liqueur, POM Wonderful, Monin Mojito, fresh mint leaves, lime, soda water and Sprite®

Z’Tejas Southwestern Grill is located in The Lodge at Bellevue Square on the third level next to the sky-bridge.
